Left atrial mural endocarditis secondary to mitral valve jet lesion.
A 38-year-old woman with Down syndrome and mitral valve prolapse presented with 2 weeks of fever and cough. She had presented to an outpatient clinic 1 week earlier and was prescribed empirical antibiotics for a suspected respiratory tract infection. Despite this therapy, she continued to have high spiking fevers and developed a fulminant rash, prompting emergent admission for further evaluatio...
متن کاملStreptococcus pseudoporcinus subacute mitral valve endocarditis: A case report
This is a case of a patient with subacute Streptococcus pseudoporcinus endocarditis, who presented with subjective fever, weight loss, and mental status changes. Multiple blood cultures were positive for Streptococcus pseudoporcinus and echocardiogram revealed mitral valve vegetation. Antibiotics cleared his blood, but the patient underwent a mitral valve replacement. This article illustrates a...
متن کاملProsthetic mitral valve endocarditis due to Ochrobactrum anthropi: case report.
We describe a case of infective endocarditis in a prosthetic mitral valve due to Ochrobactrum anthropi. Although O. anthropi is an emerging pathogen in immunocompromised patients, infections with the bacterium have very rarely been documented in healthy hosts, and endocarditis is rare. To our knowledge, only two cases of O. anthropi endocarditis have been reported in the medical literature.
متن کاملInfective endocarditis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy--mural and aortic valve vegetations: a case report.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is infrequently complicated by infective endocarditis (IE). The authors report the case of a 46-year-old woman developing IE in asymptomatic HCM. Blood cultures were positive for Streptococcus viridans. Echocardiography demonstrated: 1) a mobile (1.2 x 1 cm2) vegetation attached to the septal endocardium at the site of contact between the mitral valve leaflet a...
متن کاملLeft atrial myxoma and mitral valve endocarditis--a cause and effect: a case report.
We report the case of a 55-year-old man who presented with an infected left atrial myxoma that seeded a normal native mitral valve. Despite the absence of mitral regurgitation or heart failure, prior to the patient completing a course of IV antibiotic therapy we removed the tumor, replaced the mitral valve, and added 3 coronary artery bypass grafts, following a single embolic event. Although a ...
